As part of our mission in Social Service and Program Development, BACDC was instrumental in creating several partnerships with its Urban Women In Construction program (UWIC) and Neighborhood Workforce Development (NWD) program.
UWIC is a 9 month holistic construction program for women that includes life and social development skills, supportive services, and career development services. The mission of the UWIC program is to empower women in nontraditional careers in construction while providing women with nontraditional career opportunities as they work on single and multi-family housing projects development of BACDC.
Program Goals
• Shift the value systems related to women in nontraditional trades.
• Build financial independence and personal development while encouraging further training and secondary education.
NWD is a 6 week co-ed certified appliance maintenance training program. This technical certificate program teaches students how to repair gas and electric ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, gas and electric dryers. Students also learn installation procedures and how to interpret the appliance electrical wiring diagram. Special emphases are placed on making repairs in safe, efficient and productive manners
